wo home-made shotguns were seized on Saturday during a police exercise conducted by officers of the Eastern Division.
First, police reported that a party of officers of the Eastern Division Task Force, including Insp Thomas and Sgt Leandre, made their way to Bedes Buxo Road, Guaico, Tamana, where, acting on information received, they searched a home.
At that location, the officers found one home-made shotgun and two rounds of 12 gauge cartridges.
The same party of officers then made their way to Kesonarine Trace, Sangre Grande, where they searched an open parcel of land, and found yet another shotgun. No one was held for either seizures.
The officers then went to Valencia, where they joined a party of officers from the Valencia Police Post, where a road block exercise was conducted along the main road.
Police reported, while no one was detained, 55 fixed penalty tickets were issued to drivers in breach of traffic regulations.
Head of the Division, Senior Superintendent Dianand Naipaul yesterday praised his officers for their efforts in removing the illegal firearms from the streets, and in continuing to ensure that law and order were preserved in the division. He said the exercise was part of the division’s continuing zero tolerance approach to crime in the jurisdiction and was one of several which were conducted over the long weekend.
The Senior Superintendent also issued a stern warning to the public and especially to the criminal elements of the country, that no form of lawlessness will be tolerated in the division.
