A female relative of Rawlins Rambaran yesterday denied allegations of over compensation made by Jack Warner, interim political leader of the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) on a public platform in Tunapuna on Saturday night.
Warner at the time was speaking at the launch of his party’s Local Government Election campaign.

In his lengthy speech, he accused Rambaran, a retired chief engineer of the Trinidad and Tobago Broadcasting Company of being over compensated for his family’s property “by more than one million dollars.”

Warner alleged that Rambaran’s property was first valued at $7.1 million then it went to $10.9 million before reaching a final figure of $15.3 million the following day.

Rambaran’s sprawling property which also houses Trinidad Industrial Spares Limited” at Tulsa Trace, San Francique, Penal runs in the path of the controversial Golconda to Point Fortin Highway and he is among several residents expected to be compensated for the loss of their properties.

Yesterday when Newsday visited, the relative who did not give her name said Rambaran was not at home.

However when asked how she felt about the accusations levelled against him, she told Newsday they were not true.

“He has already spoken to his lawyers,” she said.

Newsday was given a phone number, however efforts to speak to Rambaran proved futile as calls went unanswered.
